Beyond the Congress venue: a ‘jazz meets neuroscience’ evening

Tickets are now on sale through the Istanbul International Jazz Festival for "Groove on the Brain: How Jazz Shapes the Mind", developed in conjunction with the 49th FEBS Congress.

In a collaboration with the 32nd Istanbul International Jazz Festival, which is running at a similar time to the FEBS Congress this year, the FEBS Science and Society Committee and FEBS Congress organizers have developed an intriguing cross-disciplinary event for the evening of Monday 7 July 2025 at the intersection of music and science: ‘Groove on the Brain: How Jazz Shapes the Mind’. A goal of this evening event is science education and public outreach, one area of interest of the FEBS Science and Society Committee, and the event is open to all. Congress participants are welcome to the session and tickets are now on sale.

As the jazz festival program writes: “Neuroscientist, composer, jazz musician, and the director of the Danish National Research Foundation’s Center for Music in the Brain, Peter Vuurst, will be accompanied by Prof. Dr. Güneş Özhan, head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Izmir Institute of Technology, and various musicians from Türkiye. The interactive session will take the audience on a journey through the rhythms, melodies, and improvisations of jazz, allowing them to experience how the brain processes sound physiologically, emotionally, and linguistically.”

Date and time: Monday 7 July, 18:30

Where: Salon İKSV
